Dr. Garrison Beye, (B.Sc., MBA, Ph.D.) Director, Research and Development

Dr. Beye has over eight years of experience in the development and manufacture of pharmaceuticals for clinical and commercial use.

His industrial experience, primarily at the management level, required in-depth knowledge and practice of cGMP/GLP and is familiar and comfortable working in a regulated manufacturing environment.

His development experience encompasses design, optimization, and scale up of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes to commercial scale (>1000L). This included facility engineering and upgrades to achieve class 10,000 cleanroom standards (gut and build out; ca. $1M+ projects), as well as specification and procurement of processing equipment (ca. $500k+) to support the process. He led the design, construction, and validation of a process to support a $500M/yr product.

He is also experienced in a 24/7 multi-product/multi-line cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing facility focused on the production of bulk pharmaceutical products. He led teams of approximately 20 people in the technology transfer, planning and monitoring of all activities associated with bringing a product into the plant, meeting the manufacturing window, and achieving full production quantities. He was responsible for coordination with Manufacturing, Quality, and Development personnel to resolve issues and achieve smooth, quality production on time and on budget.

He has published 6 peer-reviewed journal articles and has received numerous academic and research awards. Dr. Beye has a B.Sc. in Chemistry from University of Saskatchewan, an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix, and a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Saskatchewan.

Luis Rozenszain, (B.Sc., P.Eng) Director of Engineering

Mr. Rozenszain oversees all the engineering and plant design for the implementation of BioExx facilities and technologies.

He has over 25 years experience in Process Engineering and Project Management.

For 9 years, Mr. Rozenszain worked as a Process Engineer and Project Manager for Polyone Corporation, North America's largest plastic compounder, a US$ 2.5 billion company created by the merging of the Geon Corp. and M. A. Hanna. His responsibilities included the design, installation, commissioning and operation several new production lines, as well as transitioning of existing products to new production lines and establishing process and quality management systems to improve versatility of the facility, efficiency of operation and improvement in quality control. He led multiple initiatives that resulted in energy savings and improved operational safety, achieving over 19 man years without lost time accident.

Prior he worked for 16 years with Makhteshim Chemical Works Ltd in Israel, a US$270 million world class agrochemical and chemical products manufacturer. He rose through the ranks from Process Engineer to Department and Production Manager positions. During that time he:

Managed production in a 150 personnel site integrated by 4 DCS controlled chemical synthesis units and 2 formulating and packaging plants with an annual turnover of US$130 million.
Led the team that conducted the successful installation and start up of 5 new formulating lines
Involved in the set up and installation of Automatic Bottling and Powder Packaging lines.
Increased output 10% output while cutting working hours by 15% generating annual savings of about US$ 1 million
Oversaw refurbishment of 2 existing facilities increasing production by 50%.
Prepared and implemented the first ISO-9002 Product Handbook in Makhteshim.

Mr. Rozenszain is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and received his MSc. Chem. Eng. From Universidad Tecnologica Nacional, Buenos Aires, Argentina and a MSc. Business Administration from Ben-Gurion University Beer-Sheva, Israel.

Mr. Laurence Parslow, (B.Sc., B.Sc.Eng) Director of Process Technology

Mr. Parslow has 20 years of experience in a variety of plant extraction industries including design, construction, start-up and management of such facilities.

Prior to being recruited by BioExx, Mr. Parslow was Operations Manager for Paxis Extraction Ltd., in Shippagan, NB where he was a senior member of a team that was responsible for the design, construction and start-up of a paclitaxel extraction facility. Following start-up, he was directly responsible for process improvements and the optimization of a counter-current extraction processes.

Prior to that, he spent almost ten years as Vice President and Plant Manager for Marine Extract Ltd. (a division of Arkion Life Science) which was involved in the extraction and processing of chitin and chitosan from shellfish which was used in the nutraceutical industry.

Mr. Parslow also spent several years with the New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council where he was directly involved in co-ordination and direction of Analytical Protocols for residue and spray drift studies, residue extraction and analysis by GC and HPLC, installation, operation and maintenance of equipment and training of personnel. He also directed and assisted in implementation of GLP in the laboratory facility.

Mr. Parslow has a B.Sc. in Chemistry with Electives in Business and Economics, from U.P.E.I., Charlottetown, P.E.I., and a B.Sc.Eng. in Chemical Engineering, from University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, N.B.

Dr. David T. Balke, (B.Sc., M.A.Sc, Ph.D.) Food Applications Specialist

Dr. Balke has been involved in process and product innovation, development and testing over the last 20 years.

His doctorate thesis was specifically on the isolation and purification of white mustard proteins and oil via novel water based process. Dr. Balke systematically investigated the conditions required to successfully extract and recover both the oil and protein from the canola-relative Sinapis alba – white mustard without using any hydrocarbon-based solvent. He also studied the conditions for extraction and recovery of other high value products such as white mustard gums which are effective suspension agents and complicate aqueous processing.

He worked for 3 years as a product developer with one of the foremost spice blending companies in Canada with customers including all major meat processing companies as well as a large variety of specialty companies. He specialized in custom formulation of dry blends with a focus on non-process meat applications with expertise in sauces, composite products, rubs, instant products, vegetarian products and application of proteins for the development of new markets. He worked extensively in expanding the utilization of a variety of proteins including milk and soy. He built many successful relationships with development groups within various customers to ensure the best solution were achieved with full consideration of the applicable food regulations and nutritional requirements.

After a brief period as a product developer with Canada's largest grocery chain, he founded dtb product development, dedicated to fostering of process innovation and development as a consultant in food product development and SR&ED tax rebate regulations, to help guide food companies through the process of devising and implementing a successful development program.
