Canola and rapeseed meals rank as the second most widely traded feed ingredients. Standard canola meal has an excellent amino acid profile, is rich in vitamins and essential minerals, while being palatable and non-toxic. It is widely used in diets of livestock, aquafeed, swine, and poultry, as well as in specialty applications such as for horses and sheep.
Canola presscake from cold-pressing is sold into the commodity feeds market. BioExx’s protein isolation process produces a washed fibrous canola meal with a nutritional profile especially appropriate for ruminants such as cattle.
The specialty feeds market, including starter feed and milk replacements also represents a significant opportunity for Canola protein isolates. Many fish feeds, especially for young, predatory fish and fry, demand high value proteins with very low fibre content. In these applications, Isolexx™ will play a key role in supplementing the diet due to its excellent balance of amino acids and high digestibility.
BioExx has also been developing a protein concentrate process suitable for application to standard canola operations. The company will be working with strategic partners to bring the technology forward to service the need for Feed Canola Protein concentrate.
